Dreams, Glitter and Tears

I took this yesterday when I was taking pics of the babies, it's so darn cute!

 

Today I took lots of pics! I got great shots of the babies and some cute belly shots for Gina. The pictures totally show how teeny they are compared to my hands! They are so much smaller than the other litter.

Today is my Saturday! whew!! I'm sooooo tired, I'm not doing anything today! HA! This is my designated "Lazy Day". Suck it if you don't like it, lol!

I played with the rats today, as I try to as often as possible. I also took some pics of the babies.

The babies are a week old today. Here's the whole gang with a ruler to show their size!

The babies are 6 days old now, and it seems that some of them are going to be taking after their parents and will be rex. Here are the girls:



5 will be rex and 1 will have straight fur

the jaundiced baby is better and it appears that there will be a really light colored baby of either sex. Kay is quickly falling in love with the female that is very light. There are varying shades of blue beyond that for the babies too, so it will be fairly easy to tell most of them apart... I think.

The babies are now 3 days old and during my daily check, I figured out how many females and males we have.

Here's the whole crew, notice the jaundiced baby on the end. I'm watching her carefully.



There are 6 girls, one looks like it will be light colored or albino, 2 are smaller than the rest (runts)



and 4 boys

Aurora had her babies yesterday, starting at about 5:50 pm. She had 10 in total!

It's official, Ophelia really is Trimese!

She used to have a white nose but it has turned brown:


I was playing with the ratties today and noticed it, fantastic. Her butt and ears should turn brown soon.

Duck is in the cage with them but prefers to sleep in the big blue tube rather than cuddle in the hammock.

Today I let the rats play in the new toy I got for them. I've let them do it before and they really enjoy it, but this is the first video of it I've taken. James was playing with them too, which they really loved!



Later, I took Aurora and Nicholas to my room to play on my bed while I make Laura a present for her birthday. I suddenly noticed that I didn't see, hear or feel them playing and figured they had burrowed into the stuffed animals on the bed. I found them sleeping like this under a pillow:





Nick is underneath Aurora on his side sleeping, you can kinda see his feet and harbls.

After they woke up, I gave all of the rats some hard boiled eggs. Aurora stole hers from Nick and it was funny watching her jump-walk with it in her mouth as she tried not to topple over from the weight of the egg.

Also, I can tell Aurora is pregnant now. She is starting to get heavier and her nipples are obvious to see and are a bit bigger. I still think the babies will be due around Oct. 3rd. Nick and Aurora still have 4 days of quarantine to go and then they will join the other rats, I can't wait!!

Today Gina picked up Minnie and Daisy. She brought me some food and treats for the ratties that she brought me- a female blue dumbo named Aurora and a male blue dumbo that I am keeping- he has no name as of yet. Aurora is only staying with me while I see her through delivery and rearing of her babies. She is due to deliver October 3rd. Since I have experience with babies Gina wanted me to watch over them throughout the pregnancy and rearing. I was up for it so why not? These were not Ginas rats, they belonged to her friend Lauren. Lauren gave them to Gina and Gina gave me the male and Aurora. The idea is that hopefully Aurora will deliver at least 3 females and Gina will take 2 of them and Aurora back, Kay will get one (which she has already named Rose) and the rest of the babies will be rehomed with a small adoption fee to ensure they aren't to become snake food. Interesting!

I decided that even though I took some video of the babies today, I would take their pics as well.

It's been a crazy, wild ride. I will miss the babies as they all start to leave for their new homes. But I know that they are going to great homes so I am looking forward to seeing pics of them from their owners as they grow and mature into the adult ratties that they will be. *sniffle*

Here is their last video all at my home. It would have been longer but my camera threw a fit and insisted on new batteries and I have none at the moment. Stupid cameras.

and they've trashed the place! Poor Donnie!

I put the boys in the cage with Donnie tonight, they are settling in. I decided to leave them alone and only take a video of the girls:

I'm seperating the males and females tomorrow because they become sexually mature in 1 week and I don't want to risk it :)

Of all of the rats, Jacob isn't afraid of heights. He jumps down and runs around the house until we catch him. Check out the babies playing today:

I got outside with the babies today and tried to take pics of them running around on James' blankie. It sorta worked.



I also took a pic of Donnie in the harness/lead I made for him yesterday. It took me about 10 minutes to make and Donnie loves walking around the front yard in it!
